Monday, September 22nd

The question of the day was, "Do you like elephants?"
During our morning meeting, friends drew a name card from a pile and then practiced shaking hands while saying "good morning             " (to that friend).  This was a great way to introduce a new friend to the class and help her start learning everyone's names."

We began adding some of the environmental print to the alphabet wall.
Our schedule helper walked us through the morning routine, and we made a change by swapping out the playground card for indoor gym time due to the rain.
My small group practiced holding scissors and eventually making cuts.

Mrs. Beltz's group looked at groupings of 4 pictures and were asked, "Which one doesn't belong?"  There are no right or wrong answers as long as you can tell what you were thinking and/or how you decided on your answer.  This type of activity promotes oral language and critical thinking skills.

Mrs. Romain's group worked on crossing the midline and counting the syllables in each other's names.

Free Choice Time

The robot was coming for the boys.
The importance of having open-ended materials in early childhood classes was evident as the children used cubes to create their own pretend cell phones.

One of our friends returned from vacation this week and shared some exciting highlights from his trip with us!  He worked on a special assignment using a 'blank book,' where each page began with a pre-filled sentence for him to complete.
